Silence kills. Tell us about bullying in boarding schools – help children

Thousands of Ukrainian children have been suffering for years in outdated orphanages where corruption, violence and indifference destroy their lives. Despite promises of reform, the system condemns children to isolation, trauma, and disenfranchisement, while society turns a blind eye.
In 2017, Ukraine promised reform by approving a National Strategy for Deinstitutionalization to replace boarding schools with family-based care. But 80,000 children still live behind the walls of institutions where humiliation, fear, and trauma are the only things that are being cared for. Children are afraid to speak up. They are afraid of punitive “educators” who abuse them. They are afraid because even when they dare to complain, the system either remains silent or punishes them even more. And the responsible officials who are supposed to ensure proper living conditions for minors also take advantage of this.

Millions of budget hryvnias are spent annually on boarding schools, but where are they? In the Novosilsk boarding school in Ternopil region, 95 children with disabilities live without toilet paper, in showers without partitions, where their dignity is trampled on. Worse, sexual violence and teenage pregnancies have been reported. Funds are stolen through corrupt tenders, and inspections are just a formality. Who is covering up this impunity?

That is why we are launching a detailed investigation dedicated to the protection of children living in orphanages. If you know about violations in institutions in Kharkiv, Odesa, Kyiv or other regions, please tell us! Write to us at info.nonstopukraine@gmail.com or telegram @Go_nonstop_admin (anonymity is guaranteed). Every detail about corruption, violence or inadequate conditions can save a child. Give a voice to those who have been silenced by the system!
