Environmental threat to Kyiv residents: poisoning of the Dnipro River, fires in Chornobyl, and Russian agents in power
Kyiv may be left without clean drinking water: poisoned water from the Desna River is already 150 kilometers away from the capital. At least 60% of drinking water is taken from the Desna River. There is no alternative today, Kyivvodokanal reported. Restoration of the river may take up to two years.
The Russians continue to threaten missile attacks on critical infrastructure and the complete destruction of the Kyiv hydroelectric power plant, which would mean flooding not only a large part of the capital, but also nearby communities.
At the same time, a fire has been raging in the Chornobyl zone for eight days. Thus, the capital and the entire Kyiv region are on the verge of several environmental disasters.
And while Kyiv residents are living through nervous military routines, some high-ranking officials seem to be playing into the hands of the enemy.
We are talking about the head of the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, Andriy Tymchuk. For the sake of understanding, SAUEZM manages the entire Exclusion Zone (which is almost 3 thousand square kilometers), oversees the rehabilitation of radiation-contaminated areas and eliminates the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster. In addition, the Zone borders Belarus, from where the occupation forces entered Chornobyl in early 2022.
Now, all of these lands are under the sole management of a person who, after the annexation of Crimea, bought and actively ran a hotel business in Alushta.
Thus, an administrative building in Crimea with an area of 478 square meters. Tymchuk, as a member of the Servant of the People party and the husband of the head of the Kherson Regional State Administration, purchased it in 2018. Imagine, a deputy representing the interests of the people, during the war with the aggressor – the Russian Federation, buys real estate in Crimea. And now, this same person, who is obviously not against the “Russian world,” is exercising control over the exclusion zone.
It is also noteworthy that Tymchuk has been at the center of corruption scandals, criminal cases, and court cases at every position . At the same time, such a person, who has nothing to do with radioactive waste, can manage not only the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, but also the Chornobyl reserve with 220 thousand hectares of forests, and the Severna Pushcha State Enterprise with a departmental fire department responsible for fire safety in the red forest.
So what is really behind the large-scale fires in the zone? Perhaps in this way, Tymchuk is trying to hide the illegal logging that has been going on for a long time under the leadership of the State Agency of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Ecology. It should be reminded that former Minister Strilts even created a special working group to investigate the activities of black loggers. However, apart from raids and spending budget funds to ensure such inspections, no one has received any real results.
Interestingly, as its own justification, the SAUEZM, led by Streltsov’s protege Tymchuk, tried to shift the responsibility to the military, claiming that it was they who cut down the trees for their own needs, possibly for defense structures. But is it worth believing the officials’ words? Especially given the past and present biography of the head of the SAUEZM?
The “sanitary felling” in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone continues. Moreover, while you are reading about the fires, trees near Chornobyl are being cut on a large scale.
Based on our materials, a number of law enforcement agencies have initiated criminal proceedings and investigations into the cases taking place in the Exclusion Zone. For example, the Vyshhorod Department of the National Police in Kyiv Oblast, under the procedural guidance of the Vyshhorod District Prosecutor’s Office, conducted a pre-trial investigation in proceedings No. 12024111060000041, part 1 of Article 364. In addition, the Solomianskyi District Court of Kyiv in case 760/10867/24 ordered the TU BES in Kyiv region to start investigating the case.
We are waiting for and facilitating the moment when Tymchuk will be removed from his duties. After all, a person who has repeatedly visited the occupied Crimea and clearly did not deny the presence of Russians there cannot manage strategically important territories.
