Chaos in the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine – who really defends the country? Did Syrsky and Umerov give power to women?
In a country that has been fighting for its existence for three years, four women – Vereshchuk, Bezugla, Kalmykova and Sukhorukova – hold the top positions in defense and military medicine. None of them has any previous experience in defense, medicine, or management of governing agencies, which raises serious questions in society.
Who are they?
Iryna Vereshchuk is the former Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, who is remembered for her complete failure to work with IDPs. The situation with assistance is so disappointing that many people are looking for opportunities to return to dangerous regions or leave for Europe. The majority of IDPs do not receive the promised jobs and housing, and remain with meager payments and without a roof over their heads.
Mariana Bezuhla, known as “Bilka”. Instead of focusing on the defense of the country, she is engaged in public attacks against the leadership of the Armed Forces, which undermines the unity of the team at the highest level. For some reason, Bezuhla does not mention her family business and a dozen structures owned by them in her posts. By the way, the latter are focused on real estate and mining and engineering. So, as you might imagine, as an MP, Mariana can easily lobby for the interests of her family’s business.
Natalia Kalmykova – Instead of focusing on helping veterans, she oversees military medicine. The EVETERAN app, the 2 billion memorial complex, and other projects are causing outrage due to the lack of transparency of funding and the priority of personal interests.
Veterans complain about the impossibility and obstruction of receiving benefits, combatant status, grants and payments from the Ministry of Veterans. For example, here are some comments we received from military personnel: “I applied for grants five times, passed the interviews successfully, but Kyiv always refused. As a result, I had to take out loans and buy equipment on my own.” (regarding entrepreneurship grants for veterans).
“I’m a veteran, I was in Bakhmut and in the forests of Kreminna, I’ve been promised a combat service weapon for 2 years, but I still haven’t received it. It’s sad, because people without combat experience have had this certificate for a long time.”
“To get a discount on utilities, I had to go through several humiliating bureaucratic circles.”
So what is Kalmykova and her subordinate Ministry actually doing? If veterans remain unprotected?
Oksana Sukhorukova is the former head of the Defense Ministry’s Health Department, who is involved in international projects and lobbies for foundations, not military doctors. Thus, Ukrainian manufacturers have already lost the opportunity to produce turnstiles for the Armed Forces. Critics argue that the medical system of the Armed Forces is only suffering as a result.
Behind the scenes, it is said that the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, Syrsky, and Defense Minister Umerov are afraid of losing their jobs to this influential alliance. They seem to silently follow their orders, even if it is to the detriment of the defense system.
What do you think of this “gender equality” in defense? Does it matter if the country is on the brink?
